Acid Protection
Vintage Paper Deserves Vintage Care
Golden and Silver Age paper is fragile from the inside out: the acids in old newsprint slowly yellow and embrittle pages even when a book just sits untouched. That’s why every raw vintage book that arrives here gets acid-absorbing interleaving paper placed with it — the same conservation practice professional graders use — to draw those acids away from the pages instead of letting them do decades more damage.
It’s a small, quiet step that most sellers never see. It’s also the difference between a book that holds its page quality while it waits for the right buyer and one that doesn’t.
Archival Storage
E. Gerber Products
Raw books are stored in E. Gerber archival materials — the crystal-clear Mylar sleeves and acid-free backing boards trusted by serious collectors, dealers, and institutions — never off-the-shelf poly bags that can leach and yellow over time. Gerber is the standard we use for our own Golden Age keys, so it’s the standard your book gets too, from the day it arrives.
Combined with the interleaving paper above and our cool, stable storage, your book spends its entire consignment inside about the best preservation environment there is, short of a sealed graded slab.
Handling
Collector’s Hands
Your book is handled sparingly, carefully, and only when there’s an actual reason: the intake inspection, photography for the listing, a condition check before sale, and shipping day. Between those moments it stays put — sleeved, boarded, and protected — in stable conditions.
We treat every handling as a cost, not a convenience. Each touch is one more chance for a stress mark or a corner ding on a book that isn’t ours, so the rule is simple: if the sale doesn’t require it, we don’t touch it.
The Terms, Plainly
The Fee
10%, Flat. That’s It.
One flat consignment fee, charged when — and only when — your book sells. No listing charges, no storage charges, no photography fees, no monthly minimums, no “administrative” anything. If your book doesn’t sell, you owe us nothing for the time it spent in our care — the vault, the insurance, and the archival storage were on us.
We think that’s the only honest way to structure it: we only do well when you do.
Pricing
Set Together, with Data
We price collaboratively with you before anything goes live. We bring GoCollect and GPA sales data for graded books — real comps from real sales, not wishful thinking and not lowball anchors — and CovrGuide for raw books. You bring your goals and your timeline, and we agree on a number together.
If the market moves during the consignment, we revisit the price with you — never unilaterally. It’s your book, and you have the final say right up until the moment it sells. One note on raw books: we’re more selective about which we accept, purely because ungraded paper demands extra care in shipping and handling.
Getting Paid
1–3 Business Days
When your book sells, payment is issued within 1–3 business days, by whichever method suits you. No net-30 terms, no waiting for a monthly batch run, no polite emails asking where your money is.
We handle everything on the buyer’s side — the payment processing, the packing, the insured shipping, the tracking, and any customer questions. Your only job after the sale is deciding what to do with the proceeds. (We may have some suggestions on the wall.)
The Timeline
6 Months, Renewable
The initial consignment period is 6 months, with an automatic 3-month extension unless either of us decides to cancel — enough time for the right collector to find the book, without your grail going stale in a corner of the internet.
There’s a hard cap at 12 months, and we mean it: if a book hasn’t found its buyer by then, we’ll say so honestly and help you find the right alternative outlet — an auction house, a different marketplace, whatever actually fits the book — rather than let it sit. Your book deserves momentum, not shelf time.
Common Questions
Where is my book physically kept?
High-value books are held in bank vault storage for the length of the consignment. Everything else lives in our cool, stable storage areas — protected from heat, humidity swings, and light — sleeved and boarded in archival materials. Nothing consigned to us sits in a garage, an attic, or a sunny front window.
What if something happens to my book in your care?
We carry collectibles insurance that covers damage to consigned books while they’re with us — that’s your backstop, in writing. Between the vault, the storage conditions, and how rarely your book is actually handled, we work hard to make sure that policy never gets used. But it exists, and it protects your book, not just ours.
Do you take raw books?
Yes — selectively, and vintage Golden and Silver Age books are exactly what we want to see. Raw arrivals get acid-absorbing interleaving paper and E. Gerber archival storage from day one. We’re choosier with raw than with slabs for one reason only: ungraded paper demands extra care in shipping and handling, and we’d rather decline a book than handle it badly.

When do I get paid?

Can I get my book back?
Any time, with 3 days’ written notice — no questions, no penalty fee. Return shipping is at your expense, but we apply our discounted carrier rates to soften it, and the book ships back packed to the same standard it arrived with.
